VISTA Science & Technology was established in 1998 as a co-managed pilot project between Brock University and Niagara College. Funding for the project was provided by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program. At the time, VISTA was focused on providing value-added technical information services.
In 1999, VISTA expanded its repertoire by signing a license agreement with US-based Foresight Science & Technology. The agreement saw VISTA become the exclusive Canadian franchisee of Foresight products, services and training. VISTA began to expand on its products and services to support technology transfer, commercialization and new product development activities.
In 2005, VISTA was spun-out as an independent enterprise - VISTA Science & Technology, Inc.
Over the past 7 years, VISTA has completed more than 350 discrete commercialization assessments for clients in government, academe and the private sector. VISTA continues to grow its business, now performing eighty to ninety commercialization assessments each year.
VISTA also maintains an in-house commercialization program. We develop new tools and services based on leading edge research in the field of innovation. In 2006, VISTA launched a new line of tools based on its Research and Development Positioning and Prioritizing (R&D P&P) Framework. The R&D P&P Framework was developed in response to customer demands for evaluating the downstream commercial potential and spill-over benefits of R&D early on the innovation process.
